The Best Method to Remove Chewing Gum from Your Carpet

The simplest and most effective method in removing chewing gum from your carpet is through the use of your hair dryer. Start by heating the gum and as much as possible try not to melt any fibers of your carpet. Next would be, use a plastic wrap or any other plastic bag which you can use in picking the melted gum. Let the gum stick on the plastic and then when you see it sticking pull it up.

However, there is the possibility of some remaining gums on the carpet so you need to apply some Extra Strength Ben Gay or rubbing solution that has methyl salicylate substance. Once it is applied, use your plastic bag in removing the remaining gum until everything is taken away.

When the gum is completely removed, wash the gum spot with gentle detergent solution and put some drops of dish soap in hot water to eventually clean your carpet. Then finally, rinse the carpet thoroughly using warm water and let it dry as fast as possible with the help of a fan.

Available Carpet Stain Removers in the Market

Though you can remove the gum with your own method you need patience and long process to get it done. So, to make cleaning your carpet much easier you get some help from commercial stain remover like Goo Gone which is an effective solution. As you use Goo Gone, you have to take away as much gum as possible before applying the Goo Gone.
In applying, use a brush or the Goo Gone cover itself. You will then see (after the application) that the gum can already be removed or pulled off by picking every piece of the gum. Of course, such process requires your patience by repeatedly doing the same process until you don't see any gum anymore.

Afterwards, rinse the spot where the gum was removed with the help of shop vac or blot your carpet with a piece of cloth until it is cleaned. Also, you have to avoid leaving the solvent in your carpet for too long so, make sure to rinse and extract the solution quickly. And then, dry the cleaned area as fast as you can.

However, if you still haven't removed the gum with such method you can finally resort to carpet cleaners that require hot water extraction device so that the gum will be pulled off easily—you can use the extraction method especially if the gum is already old on your carpet. Remember, the right hotness of water is the solution.
