Winter Preparation Guidelines For Your Fireplace
Published on Thursday, 18 February 2010
Surely, you will not wish to be stranded at home without a fireplace during winter. With this, it is not enough that you have a complete pile of woods and fuel on the go. The most important thing is to clean the fireplace real well.
So starting with the easy task, you need to begin with first part of the fireplace, which is the firebox. You simply need to shovel or sweep all the ashes in it and vacuum whatever is left in the interior. If there is any residue in there, you can use a stiff brush to scrub it off. However, always make sure not to damage the bricks and metal in it as it will be too dangerous if you break even a single part. Much more, never use any abrasive cleaner as it can leave some flammable residue in the area.
Going to the chimney, it is a practical approach to let a professional do the cleaning. However, if you wish to do it yourself, you need to seal the hearth with duct tape and plastic first. This is necessary to ensure that no debris or dust will coat the interior. Afterwards, you can start scraping off the creosote or debris from inside the chimney, with you positioned on the roof. If you cannot do this thing correctly and completely, better hire the services of a professional. This is to make sure that this preparation task will turn out to be great rather than a disaster.
