Vacuum Cleaner Maintenance
Published on Wednesday, 21 April 2010
A lot of dirt and other indoor detritus gets sucked by your vacuum cleaner regularly, which is why you always need to maintain it and keep it clean for it to be able to function properly and maximize the vacuums power.
For one, you need to inspect your pipes regularly, to make sure that there are not clogs or other obstructions inside. Clogged vacuum cleaner pipes can lessen your vacuums sucking power and make it a less efficient cleaning implement. The hoses or pipes themselves also need to be checked regularly, as any cracks or breaks will let the air out other than from the nose itself, thus reducing the suction power of your vacuum.
Also, make sure that you empty the trash / dirt bin of your vacuum cleaner regularly. If you don't do a lot of heavy cleaning, one or two times a week can suffice, but if your cleaning load is a bit heavier, make sure you empty it out more frequently. The same goes with your filters and nose / nozzle brushes - clean them regularly to make sure that they serve their purpose well. Blocked filters and brushes also compromise your vacuum cleaner's power.
Also have the motor checked if you smell something burning while using the vacuum. This might mean that your motor is damaged - cease use until you can have the unit looked at and checked.
