Tips on Commercial Carpet Cleaning

Since water is usually used in cleaning commercial carpets, it is imperative that you know the type of commercial carpets you have and how they were installed to know how to appropriately clean them.
Types of Commercial Carpet Backing
Carpet backing refers to the layer between your carpet and the sub floor. Permeable carpet backing usually permits water to sip through it going to the floor. That is why using lots of water takes longer to dry. With water staying on the concrete underneath the carpet, minerals react causing the staining as a result. Adhesives are also dissolved by the water.
Impermeable backing, on the other hand, does not allow water to the ground. That is why carpet dries faster too. Adhesive stays intact and staining will not occur.
Types of Face Yarn and Carpet Fiber
Loop pile is tightly woven. That is why there is less room for dirt to stay in. There is less room for water to seep in. The opposite is true about cut pile. Since this type is loosely woven, water is able to go underneath and dirt is able to stick into the carpet.
Most commercial carpets are made of nylon and olefin. These fabrics generally are not very absorbent so using water should not be a problem. Nevertheless, strong cleaning materials and chemicals can take the color out of the nylon.
On the other hand, wool is water absorbent. It also reacts to chemicals. This means that water should be used sparingly and one should be careful about chemical use too.
So in cleaning, all these aspects should be considered. You have to really know your carpeting to maintain and clean it the right way.
