Preserving Wool Carpets through Proper Maintenance
Published on Saturday, 06 February 2010
Since wool carpets are expensive, you will wish to use them the longest possible time. This can be done through practicing proper maintenance. Especially with the beauty and status symbol they provide, the wool carpets and rugs deserve a good maintenance treatment.
One of the best things you must provide to the wool carpets is regular vacuuming, at least thrice in a week. Make sure that your vacuum is on a slow and steady motion to ensure that it is cleaning the carpets efficiently. This technique is very important for the carpet to manage its day to day struggles with dusts, sand, and other particles.
Another thing is spot cleaning, when spills appear to form on the carpet. Gently blot the area with a cleaning agent but not the harsh ones such as alkaline and bleach. These solutions can discolor the wool and damage the fiber as well.
Other than these daily reminders, you must take note that your wool carpets must be cleaned by a professional every year, usually 12 to 18 months. However, make sure that the professional cleaners will not steam clean them. Rather, they must dry clean the carpets for their safety. In the end, when everything here is followed, you can preserve the beauty and elegance these expensive wool carpets can provide to your home.
