Olefin and Carpet Cleaning
Published on Sunday, 04 October 2009

Carpet stains are considered one of the toughest stains to get rid of. But to be able to remove these stains effectively, one has to understand the material used in the carpet.

That being said, many indoor and outdoor carpets today are made of 100% Olefin, a thermoplastic resin which makes it deal of both the outside and inside of your home.

One of the most common problems with Olefin rugs is what is called crushing. Crushing is when the fibers of the carpet become flat, usually because of foot traffic and being weighed down by a particularly heavy object for a period of time. When this happens, the Olefin fibers do not return to normal. One way you can prevent this is by vacuuming regularly and frequently to shake the hairs. It's also best you stay away from long haired carpets, as these have the biggest tendency to suffer from crushing. Long haired Olefin carpets are better suited to rooms or areas with low foot traffic.

Oils are also difficult stains to remove, but a simple secret is the use of dishwashing detergent or a solution from dish soap, which will take away the greasy feel to it. Make sure to rinse, clean and dry your carpet well afterward.
