Keeping the Office Clean by Following 5S Methodology
Published on Wednesday, 23 September 2009

Is there any person in your office who is motivated to work when your working area is dirty? Take a look. Most probably, you will say none. Generally, maintaining a clean working place pushes the office staff to work with more efficiency and higher productivity. So, if you think your office is not very organized and clean, you should start making a change.
You can actually apply the 5S methodology of Japanese companies when it comes to business and cleaning, which meaning is detailed below:
·       Seiri or Sorting
Check everything you have in your place regularly. Make sure to keep only the necessary and eliminate those that are not.
·       Seiton or Set in Order
This means everything in the office has its designated place. So, everything should be kept in proper place. Here, organization is observed.
·       Seiso or Sweeping
The best way to keep the working place clean is to sweep it at the end of each working day. Require your staff to clean up their own mess. This way, the cleanliness will be preserved.
·       Seiketsu or Standardizing
Establish a standardized manual that details working place cleanliness and company behavior.
·       Shitsuke or Sustaining
Sustaining the cleaning tasks of everyone is important. Apparently, cleaning should not only be done whenever the boss is around or prospective clients are coming.
To sum up, the 5s methodology basically refers to removing waste, quickening daily tasks, and developing the quality of the office. The methodology may sound simple; however, it has to be taken note that this still demands commitment and dedication.
