How to Shampoo Your Carpets
Published on Saturday, 19 September 2009
If you have carpets and rugs, you would have to shampoo them some time. It's best that you research how to do it properly before you make damaging mistakes.
If you are going to do it yourself, you would need quality carpet shampooer. Whether you are going to get the residential or the commercial model is your choice. Just take note that commercial shampooers are more appropriate for cleaning heavier stains and dirt.
Aside from the equipment, you need to use appropriate shampoo and treatment as well. Using laundry soap and other cleaning materials is not advisable. Instead, heavy stains need pre-treatment and quality carpet shampoo. These would loosen the stains and clean the carpet.
Do not over saturate the carpet with water either. It would take the carpet longer to dry resulting to musty and moldy smell. Fungus and molds could start to form around them as well.
Only use the strongest carpet shampoo when necessary. Using ultra strong carpet shampoos can cause discoloration in carpets. That is why it is wise to test cleaning materials before applying them on visible areas of the carpet.
Aside from discoloration, strong carpet shampoos also leave heavy residues. This even causes the carpet to become dirtier. It also feels sticky and stiff.
Nevertheless, using homemade shampoos and experimenting on cleaning solutions is not safe either. This could only cause damage to the carpet and even cause health hazards at home.
In the end, it is always safer to use the equipment and the materials that are designed specifically for carpet cleaning. It is the only way to make sure that you will regain the clean and fresh smell of your carpet without damaging it.
