How to Protect Your Family from Dust Mite Allergens
Published on Saturday, 01 May 2010

If your family is prone to allergic reaction, then having dust mites in the house would surely make living there inconvenient and unhealthy. An appliance that would be most useful is the vacuum cleaner. By vacuuming furniture, draperies and the entire house more often, you get rid of most dust before they do any damage. While dust itself could be bad to the health, it's dust mite feces that actually cause allergic reactions. Make sure that you use a stronger vacuum cleaner to be effective though and always use a high grade HEPA filter. While vacuuming, always make sure too that the canister is securely sealed.   Carpets are also great dust catchers so it is recommended that you use wood or tile flooring instead. If you really want carpets in the house you should at least be responsible to vacuum more often. It is even suggested that you have the carpets treated against dust mite protein.   Bed linens need to be washed at least once a week especially since you put your face on them when you sleep. Do this in hot water in order to disinfect the linens from dust allergens. You could also use a dust mite proof covers to lessen exposure to dust mites. Don't give your children so many stuffed toys. If possible, you should keep them instead of displaying them and having your kids hug them often. To minimize dust inside the house you should also clean the exteriors.
