How to Properly Clean Your Upholstery

Furniture can be an expensive investment. It would be better if you care of it well so you can get your money's worth. Nevertheless, you need to care for it the right way if you really intend to maintain its beauty and its worth.
Water and Oils Are the Enemy
If you have fabric upholstery, water should not be used as this causes stains. Grease and other oily substances also cause stains so they should not go in contact with furniture. In cleaning stains, you only need to blot them out. Rubbing them would only spread the stain making it hard to remove instead.
Oil from human skin and scalp also wear furniture. In fact, this is the reason for the wear in furniture headrest and armrests. This can easily be remedied by dusting these areas using a slightly damp cloth daily.
Regularly Cleaning Required
Vacuum the furniture as often as you can. To be efficient, you should be very thorough. Vacuums usually are supplied with various extra tools which are appropriate for cleaning the crevices of the furniture. Again, headrests and armrests should be cleaned always too.
Cushions and pillows need to be taken out too. To remove dust, you have to shake and beat them. You also have to rotate their positions so as to even out the prominent wear pattern.
It really requires an effort from you. That is why many decide to hire professional cleaners instead. Whatever you decide on, it's surely going to be worth it when you see your furniture looking new and when it last for a long time.
