Do You Need Cleaning Help?
General Cleaning Equipment
Published on Wednesday, 30 December 2009

Even though you can afford to pay a cleaning company to work on your house for you on a regular basis, it still helps to have your own general cleaning equipment around at home. The cleaning equipment that you would need to have at home do not have to be high-powered or specialised; you can leave those specialised equipment to the cleaning companies.  The basic ones are what you ought to have and they will help you deal with cleaning emergencies that require your immediate attention.

Now, the question is: What general cleaning equipment should you have at home?  Here are some basic cleaning equipment that households should not go without.

For the Bathroom

Bathrooms are prone to mould build-up because of moisture and oftentimes poor ventilation.  These places are also likely to be the nesting ground of germs because we do most of our basic bodily functions here.  The bathroom needs to be cleaned and disinfected frequently.

To carry out these tasks, you would need toilet brushes for scrubbing the loo.  You would also need brushes and scrubbers for cleaning the tiles on the floors and the walls, as well as sponges for the sink.

For the Kitchen

The kitchen is where we prepare the food that we eat, and as thus, it should be clean all the time. If you do not have a dishwasher, sponges and dishcloths for washing dishes would be necessary.  You would also need washcloths and towels for cleaning countertops and other surfaces in your kitchen.  You would also need towels for drying your hands.  For cleaning up messes on the floor, you would probably need a mop, a mop wringer and a bucket.

For General House Cleaning

A clean house is a healthy house and so you would need some cleaning equipment to make it so. Feather dusters and chamois cloth would be helpful in cleaning off dust from surfaces.  A tall duster would help you deal with dust in hard to reach surfaces like ceiling moulds and ceiling lamps.  A step-ladder would be invaluable in this task as well.

A broom and a dustpan are necessary for sweeping away debris from your floor.  Vacuum cleaners will help suck out clinging dust from rugs, carpets and upholstery.  If there are allergic people living with you, you may need to invest some money on a handheld steam cleaner to make cleaning carpets and upholstery done more thoroughly.

You can do simple cleaning tasks with the aid of these general cleaning equipment.  But if you need more specialised cleaning, such as removing stains from carpets and deep cleaning upholstery, you should hire a cleaning company to take care of this for you.
