Dusting Techniques for the Office
Published on Tuesday, 29 December 2009
Regular dusting is very important in the office. If you leave the dusting in your office neglected, not only would the dust create an unkempt image of your office that will turn your clients away, but it could also trigger allergic reactions to both your clients and your employees. As thus, you should either keep in-house staff to do your regular dusting for you or hire a professional cleaning company that will competently do the job.
Dusting techniques are not secrets closely guarded by professional cleaning companies, however. Anyone can do it if properly instructed. Here are some dusting techniques that would be helpful for you to know about.
1. Dusting should be done in a specific direction: top to bottom, and then clockwise or counter-clockwise. Dusting from the top of a piece of furniture and working down to the bottom prevents dust from flying around and settling on already cleaned areas. Working clockwise or counter-clockwise reduces the time it takes to do the dusting, thus allowing the cleaners to complete the task in the shortest time possible.
2. The materials used for dusting, such as the dust cloth or the feather duster, should be handled with extreme care. If they are carelessly flicked around, they will scatter dust instead of gather them. This will only take up more time for the chore to be done.
3. Dusting areas that are readily visible such as table tops, interior glass, door jambs and light switches should be done on a daily basis. Even the least observant person will be able to see the dust on easily noticeable items.
4. Dusting hard-to-reach areas like air vents and ceiling lights should be done weekly. Dust can build up in these areas if they are neglected, and not only would they be hard to clean later on but can also cause allergies.
Most importantly, you should pay great attention to detail whenever you are dusting or supervising a dusting. What you miss will certainly be noticed by someone else, and you will not always find such situations to be favourable to you.
