Carpet Cleaning Ideas For Pet Owners
Published on Monday, 27 July 2009
No matter how much you train your pets for potty, it is quite common for them to urinate indoor. Of course, such situations are accidental and unavoidable. Let's see some inexpensive ideas that really work to get rid of pet urine stains and odour from the carpet. * Find the affected area and try to wring out as much of pet urine as possible from the carpet with paper towels. Then sprinkle baking soda to eliminate the odour. Blot the area again with towel and sprinkle baking soda. This time, leave it for 15 minutes and then vacuum the area. * If the urine has soaked deep in to the carpet then brace yourself to clean not only the odour but also the stain. A solution made of citrus cleaner, TSP, Borax, water and vinegar mixed in appropriate portions will easily get rid of the stain. Other agents that can be used to remove pet urine stains include peroxide, which functions as a bleaching agent and toothpaste. Be careful not to decolour your carpet whilst using peroxide based cleaning agents. * Dogs are good at catching smell and love to urinate at the same place they did earlier. Unless you free the carpet of urine odour there is a great chance for your dog to urinate on the carpet again in the same area. Hence, clean the urinated area thoroughly to eliminate the odour. Never use ammonia based products to clean the urinated area. Any residues of the cleaning agent will smell like dogs urine and attract them to urinate at the same place. * Unlike dogs, cats are highly specific about their peeing area. If it is not clean and smells badly, they will select a new clean area to pee. Therefore keeping the littering area clean, free of smell and training pets will eliminate maximum percentage of accidents saving you a great deal of effort. Another simple solution to prevent your cats from peeing in pots is by the use of cat repellents.
