To vacuum dust and airborne dust effectively, hold the vacuum cleaner about an inch high over your carpet. This way, indoor air from all corners of the room will rush into your vacuum.  2.     Before rubbing any chemical solution to your upholstered furniture, read the label carefully. Some pieces of upholstered furniture made of vinyl and leather may react differently to shampoos and foams. 3.     Pay close attention to the carpet cleaning machine you are using. Also consider the surface of the floor you are working on. If you hard wood floors make sure you use steam cleaners that are specially designed for hard wood floors to avoid deterioration. 4.     Lastly, make sure you let the harmful fumes of cleaning chemicals escape.
