Basics of Garage Cleaning
Published on Saturday, 08 January 2011

Our garages are probably the least visited part of our homes, to be rivalled only by the basements and attics. As a result, they are usually the favourite choice for depositing old, unwanted or unused stuff, and they soon become unmanageable and very unsanitary.
Cleaning the garage will take some work, but it will give you a lot of extra space and get rid of items that can, over time, pose health risks to you and your family.
You'll probably want to start by having a garage sale. People take the trouble to do this because they will be able to earn a little from their unwanted items, which they would be unable to do if they just gave them away.
If after the garage sale you are left with things you don't need or want, then think about people or institutions that may benefit from your things- an orphanage, or a community centre, perhaps?
When these first two steps are done, you'll be left wit ha garage that only contains things that are worth cleaning and organizing. Now it's time to get everyone in the household together for a joint cleaning effort. Set aside time on a certain day when everyone will have to stay at home and help out. This will not only make the work easier per individual, but will also more enjoyable. Having everyone around for consultation will also save you the trouble of finding out which items belong to whom.
