Published on Friday, 19 February 2010
You know that your house is being housed by molds and mildew when you smell a dank odor and musty odor when you enter your house. The bad news is this odor will not be eliminated, unless you do something about it. Here are some basic steps on how to improve the air quality in your home:
The first step is to understand molds. Molds love and live in moisture. Moisture will give molds the chance to survive and multiply. So, it is best to remove possible moisture in your home. Make sure that the humidity in your home should not be above 50% because it will encourage moisture formation.
You may try running a dehumidifier with a built in hygrometer that tracks the air humidity level of your home. This is a good investment, especially if your house has a mold odor. It improves that air quality of your home by sucking airborne microorganisms. The dehumidifier deposits the sucked microorganisms to the drip fan.
Second step will be installing an exhaust fan in your bathroom or try opening a window when taking a shower. It is also recommended to use a dry air conditioner during warmer months. It is best to increase the air circulation in your house by leaving at least a 3 inches space between your furniture and outside wall.
Last step will be applying insulating paint on the outside facing walls. Insulating paints contain a small amount of ceramic that forms a barrier and could slow the transfer of heat.
